VIP Amenities

When it comes to convenience, our team at Northland Dental Medicine surpasses even the highest expectations. We have even extended our hours on Mondays and Wednesdays because we know how hard it can be to fit your regular dental cleanings into a hectic schedule.  We also strive to make your dental visits as comfortable as possible. We do so by offering heated massage chairs in every room. We want you to feel like a VIP when you come into our office!

Our massage chairs provide a gentle massage to the patient’s back, as well as providing soothing massage on other parts of the body, including the calf, foot and neck.

While our motivation was to keep our patients feeling physically comfortable throughout their procedure, there are also many mental health benefits as well. Patients that suffer from dental phobia have benefited greatly from our massage chairs. Because they are so relaxed, patients often forget about the procedure being performed and these chairs even improve blood circulation and can improve immune system function.

Heated massage chairs are an amenity we offer that not only helps the patient during their dental visit, but provides overall improved health and circulation. Be sure to ask us about our heated massage chairs when you come in for a visit.

CEREC cosmetic crowns in an hour

The dental industry has seen many technological advances over the years, none more important, though, than the Chairside Economical Restoration or Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC) machine. This state-of-the-art technology allows dentist’s to create in-office crowns, inlays/onlays and dental veneers. Dr. Michael Corsello has brought this technology to our Pittsburgh, PA practice in order to restore patient’s smiles more quickly and effectively. With CEREC, Dr. Corsello carries out all the steps, from digital impressions and computer-based construction of the restoration to the milling process, inside our office.

Before taking a digital picture of the affected area, Dr. Corsello will thoroughly clean the area, removing any plaque or decay. Once that is complete, the process is quite simple. The area of the restoration will be sprayed with a fine powder which allows the digital camera to take an accurate image. Once taken, the 3D image will appear on chairside screen where Dr. Corsello is able to design the restoration right in front of you. Once the proper adjustments have been made, the system will begin to construct the restoration piece. Patients do not have to wait for their restorative piece to be sent to a dental lab to be produced because it is made while they are waiting. The manufacturing process takes around 15 minutes.

Upon completion, Dr. Corsello will touch up the restoration by painting, polishing or glazing it before cementing it into the mouth. Most dental facilities have to send molds out to laboratories and will receive the restoration 1-2 weeks later. Dr. Corsello is now able to treat decayed, cracked or chipped teeth in the same day.

CEREC

Here at Northland Dental Medicine, we utilize advanced technology for many of our procedures, including crowns and other restorations, through the use ofCEREC technology. As opposed to taking messy impressions that can take two to three weeks to be complete, we use the CEREC machine to create crowns in just one appointment.

CEREC combines a machine for processing restorative work and a computer program that turns digital images of the tooth’s structure into a 3D model of the restoration.

The simple steps for getting a CEREC crown or other restorations using this technology include the following:

1. Our dentist Dr. Michael Corsello first removes all decay from the tooth that is to be treated. If tissue from the tooth needs to be removed, a local anesthetic is applied.
2. A dry powder is applied to the tooth prior to taking a high-resolution digital image.
3. This image is then sent to the CEREC computer, where a 3D restoration model is made.
4. Within about 15 minutes, the restoration is ready to be applied using a strong bonding material.

No impressions, temporaries or waiting time is needed to get a CEREC crown at our office. To experience CEREC technology first-hand, visit Dr. Michael Corsello in Pittsburgh, PA.

Bone Grafting

When our Pittsburgh, PA dental patients are looking to get restorative work like dental implants, where the restoration goes into their jawbone, we first have to be sure they have sufficient bone to work with. The bone of the missing tooth must be thick and dense enough, and also healthy enough to support the titanium post used in implants.

If it isn’t, we offer a procedure called bone grafting that helps them grow new bone so they still have the option of a dental implant. Bone grafting is a relatively routine procedure that helps patients get restoration work done, regardless of how much bone they currently have.

The bone for bone grafting procedures either comes from the patient, synthetic materials, or a bone bank where it is harvested from human donors. A combination is often used to create a bone graft.

After completing the bone grafting procedure and the patient has healed properly, our dentist Dr. Michael Corsello proceeds with the implant or restoration procedure. It is a great alternative for our patients who want to replace missing teeth permanently, but due to their missing tooth, have lost some bone density.

To learn more about the bone grafting procedure, visit Northland Dental Medicine in Pittsburgh, PA or give us a call at 412-453-5344 to learn more.

Invisalign

Many of our patients at Northland Dental Medicine want to improve their smiles with orthodontic treatment, but don’t want to wear traditional braces. We offer them an alternative in Invisalign, which is a conspicuous and comfortable way to realign teeth and improve mild to moderate bite problems.

With Invisalign, clear plastic aligners are created using advanced 3D technology. Patients return to our office every two to three weeks for a new set of aligners. Our patients wears their Invisalign aligners at all times, except while eating or brushing their teeth.

Patients benefit in the following ways by choosing Invisalign:

  • The plastic aligners are comfortable for the patient.
  • They do not stain or damage their enamel.
  • They are virtually invisible to others.
  • Aligners can be removed during meals and while brushing or flossing.
  • They are just as effective as traditional braces.

Depending on the orthodontic issue, Invisalign treatment may last about as long as other types of orthodontic treatments, but in some cases the Invisalign braces are worn for less time overall. Invisalign is an ideal orthodontic solution for patients with mild or moderate spacing, alignment and bite problems.

Call Dr. Michael Corsello in Pittsburgh, PA at 412-453-5344 to schedule a consultation for Invisalign.

Thermography Machine

At Northland Dental Medicine, we use the latest in dental technology to provide our patients with quality dental care. One type of technology we use is athermography machine. This machine lets us take advantage of thermal imaging to help diagnose different dental conditions our patients are facing. The thermography machine works by showing us a white or red light when the patient has a worrisome condition, such as an infected tooth, TMJ disorder, or gum disease.

The thermography machine measures heat from different sources of the mouth. When heat comes through and causes a light to shine on the machine, we know it has found something. This lets us screen our patients to look for cavities, infections or decay that is not shown on traditional x-rays. Thermal imaging does not use any radiation, which is one of the many benefits to using this type of machine. It also provides a pain free way to diagnose different problems, especially with infections or cavities we can’t find otherwise.

To experience the thermography machine first hand, call Dr. Michael Corsello at 412-367-7400 to schedule a consultation.

Snore Guards

A variety of special mouth guards are provided here in our dental practice, including snore guards. Snore guards are a great way to prevent snoring while you sleep. This doesn’t just benefit you, but your spouse as well.

When our patients snore, their sleep is interrupted continually throughout the night. Snoring is also linked to other health problems, like diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and heart disease. By getting a snore guard, patients are able to stop snoring and help themselves and their spouse sleep more soundly as well.

One of the primary benefits to snore guards here at Northland Dental Medicine is that they are custom made. Rather than trying to wear an uncomfortable oral appliance meant to fit everyone, our snore guards are designed from impressions of your teeth. This means you are not attempting to sleep while wearing a snore guard that doesn’t fit you right. It is small, easy to wear, and works by preventing your tongue from slipping and blocking your air passage.

If you have been having difficulty sleeping due to frequent snoring, visit Dr. Michael Corsello in Pittsburgh, PA for a snore guard consultation.
