Dental Implants

Dental implants help our Pittsburgh, PA patients to replace missing teeth with a permanent solution. Many patients who visit our North Hills dental practice have one or multiple missing teeth. This can impact their ability to eat, drink, and also affect their confidence. Rather than opt for a bridge or partial denture, they ask us about our dental implants. Implants are considered permanent because after the titanium post is implanted, it cannot be removed. The crown over the implant may need to be replaced in about 15 years, but this is a simple procedure.

There are also some other unique benefits our patients find in getting a dental implant. Among them is the fact that there is lower bone loss over time. Patients who have lost a tooth are at risk of losing their bone density and volume when they have a missing tooth. This can have adverse effects as they age. But with our dental implants, their jawbone forms and grows around the metal post, allowing more stability in the bone itself. This is one of the top reasons patients choose to have an implant performed.

Another reason patients choose dental implants here at Dr. Michael Corsello’s practice is because they are made to function and look like natural teeth. The crown is made from impressions of adjacent teeth and the implant is permanent. It makes for the next best thing to natural teeth.

Bridges

Patients visiting Dr. Michael Corsello’s practice here in Pittsburgh, PA often have the problem of missing teeth. While many options are available, many of our patients find that choosing dental bridges is the best way to go. Bridges require natural teeth on either end of the missing tooth to anchor the bridge, with crowns and abutments creating the bridge. It is a semi-permanent solution for anyone with missing teeth.

There are different types of dental bridges available, with fixed bridges being the most common. These last about 10-15 years and are similar to a partial denture. A crown protects the natural teeth on either side of the bridge, and abutments are made to look like the patient’s natural teeth. It is not removable as dentures are.

Patients who fit the following specifications make good candidates for bridges:

1. Healthy teeth adjacent to the missing tooth that can withstand the bridge.

2. Enough bone mass to support an implant if the patient chooses to go this direction.

3. Willing to wear a restoration that isn’t removed.

4. Being dedicated to keeping their teeth and bridge clean and well maintained.

If you are interested in getting a dental bridge, schedule an appointment with us at 412-367-7400. We’re conveniently located on McKnight Road.

Screw Retained Dentures

Here at Northland Dental Implant, Dr. Michael Corsello provides a variety of restorative dental procedures, including dentures for missing teeth. Dentures are great because they help our patients restore their smile and confidence, not to mention being able to eat just about anything they want. The problem with traditional dentures is that they can something shift and move before the patient gets used to them. This is often a burden, but we offer a solution in our screw-retained dentures.

Screw-retained dentures allow patients to have more stability and permanence in their dentures. Rather than shifting while eating or talking, the patient knows the patient is going to remain in place. Screw-retained dentures, also called fixed dentures, are attached to the jaw with a metal post and screw that is implanted in the patient’s jaw. This anchors the denture to their jaw, letting it remain there permanently.

Patients find that the additional dental work needed for screw-retained dentures is worth it. It is similar to getting dental implants, except a denture is placed over the implants instead of single abutments and crowns. Patients have a full set of teeth that look and function just like natural teeth, and they take care of them just like they would with their normal teeth.

If you have questions about screw-retained dentures, visit Dr. Michael Corsello in Pittsburgh, PA.

Mini Implants

Dental implants replace missing teeth in patients who want to restore their smile. Here in our practice, we offer traditional and mini implants. We also offer SnapTite mini implant dentures. Mini implants are great because they are about half the size of traditional implants, making them easier to implant in the bone and requiring less jawbone. This decreases the need for bone grafting and can be done much quicker than with other dental implants.

Benefits for getting mini implants performed in our Pittsburgh, PA Northland Dental Implant office include the following:

  • Less chance of requiring a bone graft.

  • Minimally invasive procedure.

  • There is less downtime after the procedure.

  • Healing is faster and more comfortable.

  • The mini implant is less expensive.

With proper care and maintenance of the implant, our patients can have their mini implant for a lifetime! Some patients do need to have the crown at the top of the implant replaced, but the metal post itself is permanent as their jawbone has grown around it. We offer both types of implants here in our practice, giving our patients the option of the mini implants if they choose it.

Schedule a consultation with Dr. Michael Corsello at 412-367-7400 to discuss your implants options further or request an appointment online.

Implant Supported Dentures

Implant Supported Dentures

Having multiple missing teeth makes it difficult to chew properly, not to mention enunciate words succinctly. Missing teeth can also have a negative impact on the mouth’s structure. Dentures help replace missing teeth, let patients continue eating as they normally would and allow them to smile confidently. Unfortunately, traditional dentures may shift or move while talking or eating, which is why we offer implant-supported dentures. Patients who visit us in Pittsburgh, PA often choose to get our implant-supported dentures, called SnapTite Dentures.

SnapTite are dentures that are secured to the gums with multiple titanium post implants. The process of getting SnapTite implant-supported dentures begins with the patient visiting our office and having titanium posts implanted into their jaw bone. For each row of dentures, four implants are placed. This helps keep the dentures secure on the posts when they are worn. After the implants are healed, the dentures are fabricated and Dr. Michael Corsello shows the patient how to snap them in. That’s all there is to it!

Implant-supported dentures snap in and come out easily, though they are secure once they are snapped in. We recommend patients remove the dentures daily for proper cleaning and maintenance. They are an excellent alternative to traditional dentures or implants with crowns. Call us today at 412-367-7400 to find out more about our SnapTite implant-supported dentures.
